Late on Sunday, February 12th, 2023, a motorcyclist lost his life in a single-vehicle crash in Horry County, South Carolina. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), the coronoer identified the biker as as 29-year-old Tony Dotson Jr. The biker was riding on a rural road when they lost control of their motorcycle and crashed. TAccording to the report, the motorcycle was heading south on Kings Rd. when it ran off the road to the right, hit a curb, then spilled off the roadway and struck a street sign.

The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital, and later died as a result of the crash.

An outpouring of support on social media for the young biker, one friend writing: “I’m devastated about to Tony Dotson😭 we just talked the other day. One of the most solid dudes ive ever met, id have gone to war for you! Fly high and rest easy my love. I’m going to miss you so much, you never once failed to answer the phone, you are one of the greats and always will be to me. Ashley DotsonRyan Dotson and lyssa…call me anytime and I will be here. Same to you momma dukes. I love yall. But until we meet again brother, I love you🥺😭

This tragic accident is a sobering reminder of the dangers that motorcyclists face every day on the roads. Despite the freedom and excitement that come with riding a motorcycle, bikers are exposed to a much higher level of risk compared to drivers of cars and trucks. In fact, motorcycle accidents are nearly 28 times more likely to result in death than accidents involving passenger cars, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
