What looked like an ordinary stretch of Highway 59 in Stapleton became an emotional gathering place this week as friends, family members, and local riders held a pop-up motorcycle safety rally following several recent crashes involving young riders in Baldwin County.  

The rally was organized to honor 19-year-old Alejandro Hooper, who was killed in a motorcycle crash earlier this month, while also raising awareness for other riders seriously injured in recent weeks. Supporters lined the roadway holding signs urging drivers to “look twice” for motorcycles as traffic passed by, with many drivers honking in support.  

Family members described Hooper as a young man full of ambition who dreamed of becoming an actor and model. Loved ones said he was known for always helping others and chasing his goals with passion. According to reports, the crash happened after a vehicle allegedly traveled into the wrong lane before the collision.  

The event also highlighted the story of Logan Combs, another 19-year-old rider currently recovering from severe injuries after a recent Baldwin County crash. Organizers said the rally was about more than mourning — it was about trying to prevent more families from experiencing the same heartbreak.  

Chris Best of Biker Dad TV, who helped organize the awareness campaign, said the community wants riders to be able to follow their passion without paying for it with their lives. The rally comes during Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, as Alabama continues seeing a troubling number of motorcycle fatalities and serious crashes.  

Many at the rally shared the same message for drivers: motorcycles have just as much right to the road as any other vehicle, and a few extra seconds of attention could save a life.
