Motorcycle crash in the Pacific Northwest? We trust ELG Law

A 37-year-old motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after a driver allegedly pulled directly into his path in University Place, Washington, before fleeing the scene. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect was later located and arrested.

A disturbing dashcam video released by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office shows the moment a driver abruptly pulls in front of a motorcyclist, triggering a crash that left the rider seriously injured.

The collision happened around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026, near Cirque Drive West and 5th Avenue Court West in University Place, Washington.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to the scene after a vehicle pulled in front of a motorcycle. The rider, a 37-year-old man, attempted to maneuver around the vehicle but crashed, suffering reportedly serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Dashcam Footage Helps Deputies Track Down Suspect

The driver allegedly left the scene following the collision, turning the incident into a hit-and-run investigation.

Investigators were able to gather information about the suspect vehicle after receiving dashcam footage documenting the incident. Using that evidence, deputies tracked the vehicle to an address where they found the suspect still sitting inside.

The suspect, a 26-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and reckless driving, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

The video provides a troubling look at how quickly a driver’s actions can put a motorcyclist in danger. Unlike occupants of passenger vehicles, riders have little physical protection when a collision occurs, and an evasive maneuver can leave them vulnerable to a serious crash.

Another Reminder About Motorcycle Safety and Accountability

Motorcycle crashes involving vehicles turning or pulling into a rider’s path remain a serious concern for the riding community. Even when a motorcyclist attempts to avoid a collision, there may be little room or time to escape a dangerous situation.

Leaving the scene makes an already serious incident worse. Drivers involved in a crash must stop and fulfill their legal responsibilities, including providing information and rendering aid as required by law.

In this case, investigators say dashcam evidence helped them identify and locate the driver who allegedly fled.
