TOWNSEND, DE (BIKER DAD) –Police in Delaware say a Harley riding couple were killed when a teenage minivan driver made an illegal pass and slammed into their bike. A 68-year-old man of Middletown, Delaware, and a 63-year-old female passenger of Middletown, Delaware were the victims.

Delaware State Police say it happened around 9:30 Monday night. Police say the couple were riding their 2015 Harley-Davidson when the Chrysler Town and Country minivan passed another vehicle despite a double-yellow no-passing zone. It hit the bike head on, throwing the couple from the Harley.

The man riding the motorcycle died on the scene. The woman died later at a hospital.

Police say the 18-year-old driver wasn’t impaired but also did not say anything about charges in their press release.

Townsend – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a double fatal motorcycle crash that occurred on Green Giant Road last night.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:28 p.m., on Monday, May 31, 2021, as a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle, being operated by a 68-year-old male of Middletown, Delaware, with a 63-year-old female passenger of Middletown, DE, was traveling westbound on Green Giant Road from the intersection at Summit Bridge Road.  A 2007 Chrysler Town and Country was traveling eastbound on Green Giant Road heading in the direction of the intersection with Summit Bridge Road.  The Chrysler crossed over the solid, double yellow line to pass another, uninvolved vehicle and struck the front of the Harley Davidson.  Both the operator and passenger were ejected from the motorcycle.

The 68-year-old male operator of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The 63-year-old female passenger was transported by ambulance to Christiana Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.  Identification for both victims are pending notification to next of kin.

The 18-year-old male operator of the Chrysler was properly restrained and did not sustain any injuries.  Impairment is not considered a factor.

Green Giant Road between Wiggins Mill Road and Summit Bridge Road was closed for approximately 4 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.  The investigation into this collision is ongoing.

The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit.
