AMES, IOWA (BIKER DAD)— A community rallies after twins are robbed at their lemonade stand. The summertime tradition of setting up a lemonade stand went sour when 9-year-old twins were robbed. It happened in Ames Iowa. The children told KCCI that a car pulled up. A girl got out and snatched their tip jar. She got back in the passenger seat and the car took off.

That’s when Katelyn and Elias’ mother called the police. They didn’t just send one officer. The dispatcher put out a call for her team to help. As a result, four law enforcement agencies showed up to buy lemonade and help them make their money back.

“I started messaging some of the people that I work with asking them to get together and maybe visit the lemonade stand so we could make a difference in Katelyn and Elias’ day,” Officer Celena Rohland told KCCI. You can see their full report in the video player above.

Days later crowds were still showing up to buy the lemonade. The twins raised more than 700 dollars and will donate it to “shop with a cop.” “There was one bad apple, but they got to feel the goodness of so many more people and one bad apple will not ruin it for us,” the twins’ mom Karen Smidt told KCCI. “We are pressing on.”

So in the end this sour act had a sweet ending. When life hands you lemons, make lemonde.
