19-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed in Head-On Crash in Baldwin County

A 19-year-old Alabama rider lost his life Saturday night in a devastating motorcycle crash in Baldwin County.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Alejandro Juaquin Pineda Hooper of Summerdale was killed when the 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle he was riding collided head-on with a 2017 Hyundai Elantra on U.S. 31 near the 11-mile marker, about two miles north of Loxley.

Authorities say the crash happened around 9:59 p.m. on May 16. Hooper died of his injuries.

The driver of the Hyundai, identified as 39-year-old Jennifer A. Stearns of Gainesville, Georgia, was injured and transported to USA Health University Hospital in Mobile for treatment.

ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continues to investigate the cause of the crash. At this time, officials have not released additional details about what may have led to the collision.

Head-on crashes remain one of the deadliest types of motorcycle accidents because riders have very little protection during impact. Even with helmets and riding gear, survival rates drop dramatically when motorcycles collide directly with larger vehicles at highway speeds.

Stories like this continue to hit hard across the riding community. A young rider heading down the road one moment can be gone in seconds. Riders everywhere are reminded once again to stay alert, ride defensively, and watch for vehicles crossing center lines or making sudden movements.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
