A 20-year-old motorcyclist is lucky to be alive after a high-speed attempt to outrun the Florida Highway Patrol ended in a fiery crash on Interstate 75 in Hillsborough County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the rider was traveling north on I-75 when a state trooper attempted to stop the motorcycle for speeding. Instead of pulling over, the rider allegedly accelerated and fled.

A short time later, the motorcyclist lost control, causing the bike to crash. Moments after hitting the ground, the motorcycle burst into flames.

Despite the dramatic scene, the rider survived. Troopers said he suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The interstate was temporarily shut down while first responders extinguished the fire and investigators processed the crash scene.

The incident serves as another reminder of how quickly a motorcycle ride can turn deadly when high speeds are involved. Unlike occupants of passenger vehicles, motorcyclists have little protection in a crash, and even a momentary loss of control can have devastating consequences.
