ATLANTA, Ga. — New and aspiring motorcyclists in Georgia could benefit from additional protective gear thanks to a $5,000 grant awarded to the Georgia Motorcycle Safety Program (GMSP) for the 2027 grant year.

The grant, awarded by the National Motorcycle Safety Fund (NMSF), will help provide helmets to students participating in the state’s motorcycle safety training courses.

According to the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS), the funding will support rider education while emphasizing the importance of properly fitted helmets and protective equipment.

“We are grateful to the National Motorcycle Safety Fund for this generous $5,000 grant and its support of motorcycle safety education,” said Holly Hegyesi, GMSP manager.

Hegyesi said the funding will help provide helmets to students and reinforce the importance of wearing appropriate protective gear every time they ride.

Motorcycle Training Aims to Build Safer Riders

The Georgia Motorcycle Safety Program is administered by the Georgia Department of Driver Services and offers training designed to help motorcyclists develop the skills and confidence needed to navigate Georgia roads safely.

The program encourages riders of different experience levels to pursue training, improve their riding techniques and develop safer habits on the road.

Access to properly fitted helmets is an important part of that training. A helmet that fits correctly and meets applicable safety standards can help protect a rider in a crash.

The grant reflects a broader effort to improve motorcycle safety through education, training and access to protective equipment.
