MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. — A Mobile County grand jury will decide whether a Semmes woman should be indicted on a reckless manslaughter charge following a fatal motorcycle crash in July that killed a Wilmer man.

Tonya Wadsworth appeared before a judge for a preliminary hearing, where an Alabama state trooper testified about the investigation into the death of motorcyclist James Parker.

According to testimony reported by FOX10 News, another driver allegedly witnessed Wadsworth swerving on the roadway before her vehicle struck Parker’s motorcycle.

The fatal collision occurred on Jack Williams Road near Buford Lane in Mobile County in July.

Parker died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Trooper Testifies About Suspected Drug Impairment

During the preliminary hearing, the investigating trooper testified that authorities were still awaiting toxicology results but believed Wadsworth may have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the collision.

Wadsworth was reportedly on probation for a previous drug possession conviction when the crash occurred.

She has pleaded not guilty to the reckless manslaughter charge.

The pending toxicology results could provide additional information as the investigation and legal proceedings continue. However, the allegations presented in court have not yet been established as facts at trial.

What Happens Next?

The case now moves toward a grand jury review, where jurors will determine whether sufficient evidence exists to return an indictment.

An indictment would allow the felony prosecution to proceed. It would not constitute a finding of guilt.

The case stems from the July death of Parker, whose motorcycle was struck by a vehicle on Jack Williams Road near Buford Lane.

For motorcyclists, collisions involving larger passenger vehicles can have devastating consequences, particularly when drivers fail to maintain control of their vehicles or allegedly operate while impaired.

The criminal case against Wadsworth remains pending.
