Wear a helmet, a good idea for vikings and bikers
COPENHAGEN, DENMARK (BIKER DAD) –Wear a helmet. Apparently that was a good idea for 9th century vikings and for 21st century bikers. That’s the message from a new PSA produced by the Danish Road Safety Council.

You can watch the funny, entertaining clip in the video box above. The viking is about to set out on a road trip. Because of this, his viking buddies are urging him to wear a helmet. He’s balking at the idea and giving the familiar excuses for not wearing it. It causes his scalp to itch. So he doesn’t want to don the helmet. He wants to raid England with his hair in the wind.

Viking Svend says he doesn’t want to “run around England” wearing a silly helmet. He says he’s just not the type to wear the gear because he’s a “careful rider.” He screams “it ruins my braids!”

Finally a woman enters the scene. She’s presumably Svend’s wife, “you can go looting and pillaging all you like. But, you have to wear a helmet.” Svend finally relents. “I bet the English wear helmets too,” one of the vikings who’s been nagging him says.

Then, as Svend heads towards his journey the helmet immediately comes in handy. That’s when he bangs his helmeted head on a low gate.

What’s good about this PSA is its entertaining. It’s not preachy and demanding. It just makes you think. Biker Dad World Headquarters is on the Florida-Alabama line. Alabama requires helmets. Florida does not. As a result I can ride helmet free about half the time. However, I always wear a helmet. It feels awesome to have the wind in your hair. But it feels more awesome to have your brains inside your head. I reserve the wind in my hair when I drive the Mustang with the top down.
