DPS: A biker died splitting lanes on a Texas highway
DALLAS, TX (BIKER DAD) — A biker died splitting lanes on a highway. That’s according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The crash happened Sunday on the George Bush turnpike. DPS says the rider was speeding between cars, splitting lanes, before slamming into the rear bumper of a Ford escape.
Lane-splitting, or riding between cars, is illegal in almost every state including Texas. Several states have taken up the issue of legalizing lane-splitting but in most cases it has not passed. California is the only state that explicitly allows lane splitting. Utah allows lane-filtering, which allows bikers to drive between stopped cars as in a traffic jam.
Investigators have not released the name of the biker who died.
