A biker minding his own business was hit and killed by an SUV driver running from police in New Jersey. 76-year-old Michael Ceddia Jr. “was a lifelong native of Hackettstown, a Harley Davidson enthusiast, and a rock gardener extraordinaire. Michael was a beloved grandfather, father, uncle, brother, and friend,” according to his online obituary.
Local news reports: Sean Mamakas, 32, of Kempton, Pennsylvania, a community roughly 25 miles west of Allentown, was driving a Ford Explorer around 10:20 a.m. on Aug. 13 when it struck the motorcycle of 76-year-old Michael Ceddia near the area of Dogwood Drive and County Route 521 in Hope Township, according to a statement by the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.
Ceddia was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene, authorities said. Mamakas lost control of the SUV he was driving and came to rest in a wooded area, they said. After he was treated for minor injuries, Mamakas was charged with two counts of aggravated manslaughter and single counts of vehicular homicide, aggravated assault and eluding.
Michael is survived by his daughter Sarah J. Kelly; grandson, Redmond Bear Kelly; daughter, Rachel A. Noll; and son-in-law, Robert S. Noll.
Michael was predeceased by his parents Michael J. Ceddia, Sr., and Ruth M. Ceddia; and sister, Margaret A. Chmielewski.
The family will be handling all services privately. A Celebration of Life for Michael will be scheduled and shared at a later date.
