Lethal left turn : elderly driver kills 19-year-old Florida biker

TARPON SPRINGS, FL  – A 19-year-old motorcyclist from Holiday lost his life in a tragic crash on US-19 Thursday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at the intersection of US-19 and Highland Lakes Boulevard around 7:40 PM. A Honda CBR sportbike, operated by the 19-year-old man, was traveling northbound on US-19. At the same time, a Chrysler Pacifica, driven by an 85-year-old Palm Harbor man, was traveling southbound on US-19.

As the Chrysler Pacifica was attempting to make a left turn onto Highland Lakes Boulevard, it entered the path of the oncoming motorcycle. The two vehicles collided, the 19-year-old was transported to a local hospital and later died from his injurie. The driver of the Chrysler Pacifica sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
